The whole fee must be paid before the course commences. Fees do not include food and accommodation - see brochure. Money is not refundable once the student has started the course, except if found unsuitable by the Principal within the first two days of the course, when their fee is returned to them in full but not any of their expenses incurred.
Therefore interviews are not necessary.

We would like to receive your fee a month before the course commences. A deposit is not necessary.

Should a person send his/her fee for a course and then decide they do not wish to attend then the fee will be returned less £100 to cover administration charges, however if the person decides to attend any future course, the £100 will be reduced from the fee. New dates to be arranged with Ivor Spencer.

Should a person attend the course, and after one or two days decide he/she does not wish to continue, then there will be no refund of their fee. If a student decides to leave the course because of illness or other genuine reasons there will be no refund of their fee however they will be able to attend future courses for instruction in any lessons previously missed. There will be no extra charge but arrangements must be made with the principal. The students will not, however, be reimbursed for any expenses incurred.

A fair standard of education is required, plus two excellent references. Re languages - English must be spoken and understood, and a knowledge of other languages is an asset. Qualifications not necessary as we teach all skills required.

I would like to point out that if you wish to work in the U.S.A. a work permit has to be obtained, and you have to be sponsored by an employer in the U.S.A. But we have placed people in successful positions in the U.S.A. The School has its own American superb immigration lawyer, based in America.

All students attending School and visits must wear a shirt, collar and tie and dark suit. Females attending the school, a dress, or skirt or blouse. All students will need a note-pad and pens.

Although we have trained female Butlers they are not easily placed, but we have placed them.

The aim of the School is to teach students to become first-class Butler Administrators/Personal Assistants, with the object of taking control of a household or households, and will be responsible for the purchasing of food and wines including Champagne, cigars and clothes, booking travel for employers, and hiring of all staff. The School also teaches students how to organise large and small parties.

Whenever possible the Ivor Spencer School arranges educational visits to famous places of interest.

PLEASE READ THIS PAGE CAREFULLY

Due to pressure of business I am sorry to say that after the information has been sent to you we are unable to enter into any further correspondence except to give written confirmation that you are accepted on the course and a receipt for your fee, and here are the answers to general questions that I usually receive from prospective students, however, I will answer your questions by telephone.

THE SCHOOL AND AGENCY DOES NOT PROMISE A POSITION

The School only places Butlers that are trained at the School.

The school does not charge the Butler for placing him in a position.

The school only charges the employer a commission when he engages a Butler.

The School does not disclose names, addresses or telephone numbers of successful Butlers, trained by the School, this is strictly confidential. The School does not disclose any information on the number of Butlers placed per year.

The salary Butlers usually receive when they commence a position is £40,000 Sterling per year in the U.K. In the United States the starting salary per year is usually U.S. $80,000, and elsewhere a similar wage structure, plus usually good accommodation, food, medical care, and a car for shopping. The above figures represent the salaries when the School's Agency places someone. We do not advise people to give up their job before attending the course, they should try and get leave of absence.

We do not arrange grants, nor do we recommend other agencies overseas who may give grants. You have to deal with this yourself.

I do not interview prospective students, and Butlers may find positions by answering an advertisement in a newspaper/magazine, or going to an Agency or being placed through the School's registered Agency only when possible.

You will find that the course will teach you everything you need to know about running a busy wealthy home, a palace or large estate.
