But we have placed people in successful positions in the U.S.A. The courses are fascinating and most interesting, and only Butlers who have been trained by the School are placed on our Agency List, and the School has had great pleasure in placing some of the butlers in superb positions. Others often find very good positions themselves. A Diploma is presented to students at the end of every course, signed by the Principal, Ivor Spencer. Mr. Spencer's very good name and School precede him, and anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting him or has had any dealings with his School will know this. Since I completed my course with Mr. Spencer in January 1990, he has arranged superb jobs for me. My position here in the U.S.A. was arranged by Mr. Spencer, and I can say that I have never been happier. The facilities and conditions are excellent, and I know I have Mr. Spencer to thank inasmuch as he plays a very large part in obtaining the very best conditions for his trained Butlers. I can only sing the praises of the Ivor Spencer Butler Course and say that anyone who decides to take it will have a sound grounding in the art of personal services and that the Diploma will open many doors for them. I send my warmest regards to Ivor." ANDREW LOWREY - U.K. Dear Ivor, Further to your request, please find enclosed, six copies of both my and my wife's Curriculum Vitae. I have also enclosed copies of relevant references and certificates. I do hope that all is in order. May I take this opportunity of, once again, thanking both yourself and Don for the course, I found it fascinating. I have spent most of my working life in catering, and a great deal of time working in five star hotels. I now feel that I am trained to a 'ten star' standard. Yours sincerely, Martin R Justin - U.K. I am delighted to say that I have trained Peter McGuinness at my School who is now Head Butler at the Lanesborough Hotel, and he is in charge of thirty Butlers. The Lanesborough is a first-class hotel in London. IVOR SPENCER The Ivor Spencer International School for Butler Administrators/Personal Assistants has been established since January 1981, and trains superb Butlers who run a home or homes in great style. The School is internationally known and is a great success. Butlers have been trained for Royal Households, Embassies, Heads of State and Presidents, Chairmen and C.E.Os of international businesses. Often the Butlers say the Diploma opens doors. PLEASE READ THIS PAGE CAREFULLY Due to pressure of business I am sorry to say that after the information has been sent to you we are unable to enter into any further correspondence except to give written confirmation that you are accepted on the course and a receipt for your fee, and here are the answers to general questions that I usually receive from prospective students:- THE SCHOOL AND AGENCY DOES NOT PROMISE A POSITION The School only places Butlers that are trained at the School. The school does not charge the Butler for placing him in a position. The school only charges the employer a commission when he engages a Butler. The School does not give names, addresses and telephone numbers of successful Butlers, trained by the School, this is strictly confidential. The School does not give any information out on the number of Butlers placed per year. The salary Butlers usually receive when they commence a position is between £20,000 and £25,000 Sterling per year in the U.K. In the United States the starting salary per year is usually, between U.S. $35,000 and U.S. $40,000, and elsewhere a similar wage structure, plus usually good accommodation, food, medical care, and a car for shopping. The above figures represent the salaries when the School's Agency places someone. We do not advise people to give up their job before attending the course, they should try and get leave of absence. We do not arrange grants, nor do we recommend other agencies overseas who may give grants. You have to deal with this yourself. I do not interview prospective students, and Butlers may find positions by answering an advertisement in a newspaper/magazine, or going to an Agency or being placed through the School's registered Agency only when possible. The only suitable book you need to read prior to attending my Butler course is The World Atlas of Wine by Hugh Johnson. You will find that the course will teach you everything you need to know about running a busy wealthy home.
